The Colombo Stock Exchange (CSE) is to reimpose the Share Transaction Levy (STL) on all transactions with effect from Friday, April 15, a move that was reported in the Business Times in its April 3 edition.  On Tuesday, a day before the Sinhala and Hindu New Year, the CSE said in an announcement that the STL will be reimposed at the rate of 0.3 per cent from every buyer and seller on the turnover of every share trading transaction.  The Business Times, in its April 3 report titled “Govt to reintroduce share transaction levy on SEC plea”, reported that the Securities & Exchange Commission had requested the Prime Minister to bring back the STL instead of imposing the Capital Gains Tax.
