The hunt is on to find that beautiful and talented young Sri Lankan who could ‘earn’ through hard work and dedication, the coveted Miss Sri Lanka title to represent our motherland on a world platform.

Model Shop, for the fourth consecutive year, has embarked on this mission by joining hands with industry experts to tap into the talents of young Sri Lankan beauties across the country, especially from rural areas, and to groom them to represent Sri Lanka at the prestigious Miss World pageant to be held in December this year.

Speaking at the official launch of Siyatha Miss World Sri Lanka 2016 pageant presented by Model Shop in association with Siyatha TV, Kiss FM and the Sunday Times, Sangeetha Weeraratne one of the three directors of Model Shop, along with Shereen Kumaratunga and Dhananjaya Bandara said it was important to evoke the inner beauty in the contestants to see to the needs of the less fortunate and to uplift a humanitarian cause under the theme of, ‘Miss World; Beauty With A Purpose.’

According to Sangeetha the preliminaries will shortlist around 12-15 finalists for the local pageant.

Several mini pageants have been lined up in the run up to the main pageant.

The contestants who enter the semi-finals will undergo six weeks rigorous training under veteran choreographer Senaka De Silva.

The other industry experts associated with the Siyatha Miss World Sri Lanka 2016 pageant are; Ramani Fernando handling the hair and beauty component of the pageant, Dhananjaya Bandara for exclusive evening wear for the finale, Channa Wijewardene guiding the contestants on oriental dance forms and Kumar De Silva to train the contestants on communications skills, personal grooming and social etiquette. While participants will be given professional training and advice on facing the camera, they will be photographed by the event’s official photographer, Athula Mahawalage.

The official print media partner of the event is Wijeya Newspapers while Voice of Asia Network serves as the official electronic media partner.

Also attending the launch was Chulakshi Ranathunga (Miss World Sri Lanka 2014) and Thilini Amarasooriya (Miss World Sri Lanka 2015) who shared their experiences taking part in the local and the world pageant.
