Former Miss Britain and model, Amy Kitchingman who is currently based in Dubai filming her new TV show ‘On the Go’ will be in Sri Lanka this week. Her healthy active travel show reflects her passion for health and fitness from a young age.

Amy encourages everyone to take care of themselves and adopt a more fit and healthy lifestyle.

“On the Go is a travel show with a difference. The aim of my show is to share with you how to go and have amazing vacations whilst staying fit and active. All that hard work you have done in the gym the rest of the year shouldn’t go to waste for two over-indulgent weeks,” she says.

Here are Amy’s top tips to staying fit and active whilst on vacation:

Set realistic goals

It’s easy to say when you’re going away that you will keep up the fitness routine you maintain at home. But chances are that isn’t going to be possible. So instead of promising yourself two hours hard core lifting in the gym why not look at classes the hotel you are at is running – like a beach yoga class or aerobics. Anything to get your blood moving.

Look for what is around…a beach to go running on? “I find running really helps me with jet lag. Most probably at your hotel there will be a pool- swim some lengths. Swimming is a great form of exercise that works the whole body and has low impact on your joints. This is great if your ankles are feeling a bit swollen or tender from flying, “ she says.

Try something new

There are always active activities to take part in when you are on vacation, Amy points out. “Whether it be paragliding, snorkelling or my personal fave – stand up paddle boarding, trying something fun is not just an exciting experience but it also doubles up as a workout. Paddle boarding engages your core as you are constantly maintaining you balance. It also helps improve your balance and if you paddle board for long enough it also is a form of cardio as well as helping to tone the whole body. If you are not feeling that adventurous then go for a walk. Whether it’s a stroll through the streets or a hike in the hills anything is great as long as you are moving!

Use your phone

With so many applications on smart phones to help endorse a healthy lifestyle, they can  really help to keep motivated when it comes to training, says Amy. “Use an app to track how many steps you have taken and calories burned. Just sightseeing and walking around a city can give you surprising results.”

With the holiday season on, it’s advice to take to heart.
