Telemakers’ Guild, an association of artistes involved in the teledrama industry presents ‘Kinduru Kumaraya’, a single episodic teledrama that will be telecast at 1pm on April 13 on National Rupavahini channel.

Directed by veteran teledrama director Sudath Rohana, the  teleplay is an artistic endeavour to produce quality teledramas and was done with the participation of students who were trained under the guidance of the TeleMakers’ Guild.

‘Kinduru Kumaraya’ stars Madhushan Hathlahawatte, Lakshika Jayawardena, Janak Premalal, Vasanthi Vittachchi and Malkanthi Hayasinghe in the main roles.

The story revolves around Baladasa, a simpleton from a rural village who works in a quarry. One day a co-worker plays a joke on him and he pushes him down the quarry. Scared that he committed a murder Baladasa runs away from the village and ends up in a village down south. He meets Malee a village damsel who lives with her father Karathelis and invites him to live with them. After sometime Baladasa becomes a part of Kurthelis’ family. Baladasa is yearning to go back to the village to see his mother but fears to go back there. This he reveals to Malee and she makes a plan.

One night Baladasa secretly goes to his village and visits mother and she is thrilled to him. During this visit he comes to know that his colleague whom he pushed down the quarry had not died and his fear was in vain. In fact he comes to know that all his colleagues were practising a Nadagama, a traditional play to be enacted for the New Year. As he prepares to celebrate New Year, he gets new visitors.

‘Kinduru Kumaraya’ highlights the importance of New Year celebrations, traditions and customs related to it and most importantly values like unity, forgiveness and respecting the elders.
