STC Kotte win limited overs encounter
View(s):St. Thomas’ College, Kotte annexed the Dr. G. N. Perera Challenge Trophy when they scored an easy six wickets victory over traditional rivals Sri Jayawardenapura MMV in their annual Limited over encounter played at the St. Peter’s College grounds over the weekend. Sri Jayawardenapura batsmen failed to continue their batting performance displayed at the Battle of Kotte big encounter against a well handled bowling attack by the Thomians. Batting first J’pura was dismissed for a sorry 105 runs in 25.5 overs. Uditha Maduranga and Dushan Lakshitha staged a brave battle to pull the side out of the woods scoring 38 and 28 respectively. Except for Maduranga and Lakshitha none of the other batsmen had any idea of staying at the wicket in building up a respectable total.
The pace spin bowling outfit of the Thomians Charuka Dilshan (3 for 15), Dushen Nelanka (3 for 30), skipper Brenden Ebert (2 for 13) and Mesalin Demin (2 for 29) kept the batsmen in check forcing them to make mistakes in selecting shots. Chasing a victory target of 105 Thomians too didn’t have things going in favour but reach the target for the loss of six wickets. Dushan Sachintha kept an end going collecting a steady 27 while Mesalin Demin remained unbeaten on 25 to put the finishing touches with 23.2 overs to spare. Yasindu Yulantha and Ravindu Vinod bowled best to capture 2 for 28 and 2 for 29 thus delaying the Thomian victory.
