Royal College, Colombo carrom players excelled at the National Junior Carrom Championship organised and conducted by the Carrom Federation of Sri Lanka by winning three junior championship titles and four runners-up titles at the Carrom Federation Headquarters last weekend. Over 350 players representing different areas and schools in the island participated in this year’s championship exhibited a high standard of slice work where Royal College in the Boys segment dominated their prowess while Mahamaya Balika Vidyalaya, Nugegoda clinched the top spot in the Girls section.
Royalists Nadarajan Sankanith, Vidmal Rajapaksha and Mohamed Saheed won Junior titles in the Under 13, 15 and 21 ages while Senath Rajapaksha along with Anas Ahamed won Junior Singles runners-up titles in the Under 17 and 21 categories.

Mahamaya Balika Vidyalaya slicers Tasmila Kavindi and Nethma Sewmini won the Under 13 and Under 15 Singles titles and Nuwanthika Sanjeewani/Thasmila Kavindi combination emerged runners-up in the Under 17 Girls Doubles event. A special event at this tournament was that Anas Ahamed of Royal College recorded a ‘White Slam’ (Finishing a match without giving a chance to the opponent) each at semi-finals and final matches while Mohamed Shaheed recorded a ‘Black Slam’ (Finishing a match at the first opportunity gained)

Boys: Vidmal Rajapaksha (Royal College, Colombo) beat Sahan Nirman (St. John’s College, Nugegoda) 2-1 (21/8, 22/25, 25/17).
Girls: Nethma Sewmini (Mahamaya BV Nugegoda) beat Sumalya Vidanagama (Dharmapala Vidyalaya, Pannipitiya) 2-1 (23/25, 25/18, 25/5).

Under-17 Singles
Boys: Kaveen Nimneth (St. John’s Nugegoda) beat Senath Rajapaksha (Royal College Colombo) 2-0 (25/2, 25/23).
Girls: Minsadi Laknara (Anula Balika Nugegoda) beat Tharushi Himansika (Mahamaya BV Nugegoda) 2-1 (25/0, 15/25, 25/2).

Boys: I.N. Kalansuriya (St. Sylvester’s Kandy) beat Dineth Dulakshana (St. John’s Nugegoda) 2-0 (25/12, 25/18).
