Inauguration of Nugegoda Bridge Club
View(s):Plans are afoot to inaugurate the formation of a Bridge Club which will cater to Bridge aficionados in and around Nugegoda. The objective is to popularise the game of Duplicate Contract Bridge which is being promoted aggressively by the Bridge Federation of Sri Lanka headed by Gerry Hidelaratchi. The Bridge Federation is recognised by the Ministry Of Sports which awards an annual financial grant to them for the promotion of the game. The Nugegoda Bridge Club will seek affiliation with the Bridge Federation of Sri Lanka which will entitle their members earn Master Points at tournaments organized by them. The Nugegoda Bridge Club has been formed by the initiative of a few enthusiastic bridge players in the area and has their headquarters at 50, Subadrarama Lane the home of Kumara Samaranayake who is the Patron of the Club.
With the enrolment of a significant number of members the Club plans to have a weekly contract bridge tournament to start with and will increase the frequency with time. The objective of the Nugegoda Bridge Club is to spread and popularize the game of bridge and as it grows in strength and stature to widen it’s scope to provide instruction classes to learners of bridge. The Nugegoda Bridge Club will be inaugurated on 6 April 2016 at the Sanhinda Leisure Centre, Stanley Tillakaratne Mawatha, Nugegoda at 9.30am. The inauguration of the Club will be followed by an Open Pairs Tournament where the Tournament Director will be Rex Perera. This event is taking place with the participation and blessings of the Bridge Federation of Sri Lanka. Those who wish to join the Club and/or participate in the Open Pairs Tournament on April 6 at 9.30am are kindly requested contact any one of the following immediately.
