Gothami Balika Vidyalaya, Colombo joins Anula Vidyalaya and Devapathiraja College, Rathgama to play in semi-finals of the ongoing Schools Under 19 Inter Schools cricket championship 2016. With one more quarter-final match to be played this weekend, two interesting semi-finals and the clash of the two top teams of girls’ schools in the final will decide this year’s champions.

In the third quarter-final match played at the Wesley College grounds over the weekend saw Gothami Balika registering an easy eight wickets win over Sri Siddhartha Madya Maha Vidyalaya, Eppawela. Lasses from Eppawela taking first lease of the wicket were heading for a respectable total when Saranga Surasena and Shanika Ekanayake slowly but steadily heading in building a partnership but with the introduction of Harini Subhashi saw both Surasena and Ekanayake being dismissed for 23 and 22 respectively caused the middle and the lower order batters losing their wickets at regular intervals to be dismissed for 103 in 22.1 overs.

Madushika Wijesinghe with a well compiled unbeaten 37 runs piloted the Colombo school to reach the target with the loss of only a couple of wickets in 20.2 overs.

Siddhartha MMV Eppawela found way to play in the 3rd quarter-final by defeating Good Shepherd Convent, Nuwara Eliya by a massive 313 runs. K. Chathurika (88), Saranga Surasena (52 n.o.) and Shanika Ekanayake (43) made merry with the little England school bowlers to the tune of 371 for 5 in their allotted 25 overs. Priyanthika Chandradasa (5 for 9), Sithumini Jayawardena (2 for 6) and N. Sandamali (2 for 7) wrecked the Good Shepherdians batting line dismissing for 58 in 17.4 overs.

In the other pre quarter-final match Gothami Balika Vidyalaya registered a 147 runs win over Theldeniya National School at the same venue. Madushika Wijesinghe (55), Shaini Nisansala (31) and Ganguli Perera (26 n.o.) were the main contributors for Gothami’s total of 216 for 5 in 25 overs. Theldeniya NS was dismissed for 69 with Harini Subashi (3 for 8), Gandhari Panagoda (2 for 9) and Samadhi Nethimi (2 for 18) being the main destroyers.
