The colours of contentment

Jayani Pinnawale’s use of vivid colours and shadows enhances the depth of her paintings. In ‘Blues and Blues’ one of her new works, she has used mostly blue without using any green which she thinks is a good experience. The whole painting of water, trees and bushes is painted entirely in blue.

In some paintings she uses a few colours, sometimes two or three colours to complete her work. The colours used in the background of the painting ‘In sorrow’ echo a feeling of sadness – the painting is of an elderly woman done during the tsunami disaster.

‘Reflections in Colour’ Jayani C. Pinnawale’s exhibition will be on at the Lionel Wendt Gallery on February 2 and 3.

“When I look back after so many years of painting, I get quite a satisfaction and contentment from my creation of Art. I feel proud and honoured when critics say that I have excelled in Art both painting and writing,” the artist says.

Her paintings speak of the beauty of life, the serenity of the environment, the unforgettable expressions of people, the lovable nature of animals and birds and the beauty of flowers.

When travelling to other countries she takes time off to visit museums, and art galleries. The exposure gained through her travels abroad, has had positive effects on her work she feels.
