European classical music, American blues, and South American songs and rhythms came together to form what became known as jazz.

At its core is openness to all influences, and personal expression through improvisation and hence jazz can be seen as a reflection of cultural diversity and individualism. Throughout its history, jazz has straddled the worlds of popular music and art music.

The Colombo Jazz and Blues Festival on February 7 at the Galle Face Hotel, will welcome global music fans to a jazz-centric celebration and organisers assure they want to make it an annual event.

The stellar line up includes: Jimmy Thomas and Michael Roach from the USA, Sannie Fox, Danny McCormack, Paul Cory, Roy Adams and Richard Hammond – from the UK, Duduzile Makhoba, Ayanda Jiya, Musa Mashiane, Bongani Nkoane, Tshepo Tsotetsi, Neo Mongotsi and Manna Bongani from South Africa, the Rynosaxx Collective from India and Jerome Speldewinde, Geoffrey Fernando and Brown Sugar from
Sri Lanka.

The concept behind the Colombo Jazz & Blues Festival is a music event that promises to combine and showcase the talents of the best international as well as local artistes.

The event will feature a mix of Blues, Traditional and Contemporary Jazz and an irresistible “Feastival” with an array of specialty foods and wine and champagne. A Design and Art element will be on from noon to midnight!

One of the main aims of the Colombo Jazz Festival is to promote Sri Lanka as a key tourist destination with a rich and diverse cultural heritage.

The Jazz & Blues Fest is produced by Mainstage Events who have a track record of producing successful sold- out events like The Wailers, Mohombi live, High on Heels and Julian Marley.
