AmCham joins top corporates to combat counterfeit

The American Chamber of Commerce (AmCham), as part of the ‘Stay safe from fakes’campaign to address the issue of violations of Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) in Sri Lanka, is hosting a first of its kind briefing on December 1 in Colombo.AmCham said the participants will be provided with an understanding to counterfeit mitigation which will highlight the importance of protecting IPR and combating counterfeit as the first step to negating corruption in the country. Further, education in the critical first step of visual detection of counterfeit and substandard characteristics through hands-on experience will also be provided.

“AmCham together with leading Sri Lankan corporate entities hopes to educate the public through the media on the harmful effects of consuming counterfeit, with the view to further strengthen foreign investor’sconfidence and increasing awareness of the potential threat to both the economy and lives of the people,” the release said.Furthermore, under the same campaign, AmCham Sri Lanka has scheduled two more Capacity Building Workshops for the Officers of Sri Lanka Customs and the Senior Investigation officers of Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA), on December 2-3.
