Siwrathna and Dewmith emerge best paddlers

Visakhian Nathasha Sadavinee Siwrathna and Dewmith Weerasena of Lyceum International School, Nugegoda were crowned the Most Outstanding Players of the Western Province Ranking Table Tennis Championship 2015 organised and conducted by the Gold Star Table ennis Club, Gampaha at the S. Thomas’ College Indoor Stadium, Mt. Lavinia last weekend.
On their way to win the crowns Siwrathna dominated in the Girls category winning the Under 15, Under 18 and Open Women’s Singles Championships while Weerasena emerged champion at the Boys Under 15 and Under 18 events and ending as the Runner-up in the Men’s Open Singles.
Though Siwrathna and Weerasena had plain sailings in their respective age group categories but playing in the Open finals both faced stiff opposition. In the Men’s Open finals Helith Hendawitharana didn’t find things easy when Dewmith Weerasena kept the game alive with a 11/06 win in the second set but Helitha settled calmly to win the 3rd and 4th sets to win the championship. - LR
