Unichela Fencing Club clinched the Fencing national overall champions’ title when they came out on top at 3rd National Fencing Championship which was held at the Slimline auditorium in Pannala.

Unichela FC’s Manjula Fernando, the best male fencer

Unichela FC pushed defending champions Slimline FC who in fact was the champions for the last three years since the inaugural championship which was held in 2012 to the second slot.

The champion Unichela FC team bagged seven medals which included three gold’s, one silver and three bronze while Slimline FC ended with two gold’s, three silver and two bronze medals.

In the women’s category Slimline FC retained the title for yet another year and MDS FC came out as the second best.

Unichela FC came out on top in two of the three men’s events which were the Foil and Sabre individual events which were won by Supun Seneviratne and Manjula Fernando and the men’s mixed team event while Dushan Lahiru of Slimtex FC took the Epee individual event.

Reeta Prakashan of MDS along with Piyumi Hansani of Linea FC and Anuruddhika Dhananjani of Slimline FC took the three individual events and Slimline FC was adjudged the winner in the women’s mixed team event.

Manjula Fernando from the champion team Unichela FC was adjudged the best fencer in the men’s category for the second successive year while the best fencer in the women’s category was Reeta Prakashan of MDS FC.

The 4th National Fencing Championship conducted by the National Association of Fencing Sri Lanka (NAFSL) and spearheaded by its president Dian Gomes a synonymous name in boxing circuit where he headed for five years saw the participation of fencers from nine clubs affiliated to the NASFL.
