Man dies of burns after workplace accident

A 38-year-old man died of burns after a bucket of hot iron liquid fell on him at his workplace, a Coroner’s Court inquiry was told.
The victim, Kaluge Don Sumudu Kusumsiri Jinadasa, a father of two, was a resident of Kaduwela, and worked at Priyantha Iron Works Ltd, in Pittugala, Kaduwela.

A co-worker, Don Jeewan Karunatilake, stated that the deceased was operating the boiler when a bucket with a depth of about four feet, containing hot iron liquid, fell on him from above.The victim was initially taken to the Neville Fernando Hospital, Malambe, and then transferred to the National Hospital, Colombo, where he succumbed to his injuries on Monday 21 September.
At the postmortem inquiry held by the Colombo National Hospital, Judicial Medical Officer Ranjith Fernando said the death was due to extensive, deep burn injuries caused by the hot liquid on the stomach and chest.

The City Coroner M.Asroff Rumi conducted the inquiry and Police Constable Rohitha Perera of the Wanawasala Police led the evidence and assisted in the post mortem.
