Puttalam and Kurunegala districts win volleyball titles at National Youth Games

The Volleyball tournament of the 27th National Youth Games conducted by the National Youth Service Council came to a conclusion on a high note when Puttalam District clinched the Men’s championship while lasses from the Kurunegala District emerged winners in the Women’s segment.

The Women’s title was won by Kurunegala district

A total of fifty teams Men and Women took part in this tournament which was worked-off at the Ruwanwella Rajasinghe Vidyalaya courts. The Men’s winners Puttalam District on their way to the finals met Hambantota District in the semi-finals and the runner-up Kegalle District locked horns with Gampaha.

In the first semi-final Puttalam scored an easy 2-0 win over Hambantota while Kegalle too winning easily 2-0 over Gampaha.

Puttalam District started the final by winning the first two sets 25-23 and 25-22 while the lads from Kegalle District came back to the game winning the third set 25-18 and last set was won by Puttalam to be winners 3-1.

In the Women’s finals Kurunegala defeated Puttalam 3-1 to crown as Women’s champs. In the semi-finals Kurunegala beat Colombo 2-0 while Puttalam best Gampaha 2-0. The third place was won by Colombo District.

Puttalam District won the Men’s championship

The second stage of the team events will be held this weekend which include softball cricket and elle.
