Rain plays havoc
The MCA Division ‘B’ 50-over League Tournament 2016 got off to an unfortunate start on Wednesday, when rain played havoc, as three of the five games billed for the day ending in no-results.
In the two matches that barely escaped the rain, John Keells ‘B’ beat Singer Sri Lanka ‘A’ and DIMO beat Mobitel. Hans Fernando hit a quick fire 73 in 76 balls with two sixes and five fours to carry John Keells ‘B’ to a fine 6-wicket win over Singer ‘A’. Nipun Karunanayake with a solid 61 in 84 balls helped DIMO to beat the rain and Mobitel by 5 wickets on the D/L Method.
The tournament will be continued on September 21, 23 and during the weekend of September 26 and 27 with a card of 12 matches. The tournament faced a further problem when Ewis pulled out from the tournament at the last minute from Group ‘B’.
