Prabhakaran who did not close his eyes

Though a fire dies out, embers can remain. This is so even in national affairs of our country and it is due to our own fault. We cannot treat everything as being over and done with. Our rulers must realise this. Today I am talking about ‘Velupillai Prabhakaran, though dead he sleeps with his eyes open!’ When someone dies he is forgotten soon. But not so in the case of Prabhakaran. He keeps emerging from time to time.

Karuna Amman, a onetime Eastern leader of the LTTE, and later a minister in the previous government, made a statement last week about Prabhakaran’s death. He claimed Prabhakaran committed suicide. This matter was discussed earlier by me and a few others.

In the case of a natural death, the eyes, more often than not, generally close. Even if a person is assaulted and killed, because of fear, his eyes remain closed. If one is expecting to die and shoots oneself because there is no fear involved he could have his eyes open when he dies. It was reported in the newspapers that Prabhakaran tried to commit suicide several times by shooting himself. In the face of death he may have taken his own life to avoid being killed by his enemy.

Till Karuna came out with the story of the suicide of Prabhakaran, doctors and coroners were silent. If they had said something after the autopsy was done, it would have been an advantage for us with the international community. I believe that, at the correct time, both the rulers and the people must act in such a way that we are not blamed by outsiders. At times we talk about the electric chair and other times we talk about the international community getting involved in our internal affairs. We come up with something or the other. It is important that we say something consistent. In any case, we have to be thankful to Karuna Amman for his statement. It is good to get the proper evidence on the death and keep all proper records at least for history.

It was recently reported that the Attorney General had informed the courts that Kumaran Pathmanathan, better known as KP was not involved in terrorist activities. But the people know that KP was involved with terrorists and sent ship loads of armaments for terrorist activities. Therefore the people are confused when the AG tells the courts that KP was not involved in terrorist activities. If the Government is not alert and does not take due action, the country can be made unstable once again.

The wife of a person, who took care of elephants at Gangaramaya, died in the Middle East whilst working as a housemaid. It is natural for the body of a dead person to stiffen after death, but in the case of this woman the hands and feet were almost normal like as if she had fainted. I asked the doctors about it and there was suspicion about her death.

I came to know cases of people who are operated and die and where various organs such as heart, kidneys and liver are removed that there is no stiffening of the body. I tried to help the dead woman’s husband and obtain some legal help, but was not able to do so. Some women who go to work as housemaids under rich foreigners allegedly die after forcefully being compelled to donate their kidneys and liver. Sometimes housemaid jobs are being offered to attract women to take body parts.

This is more dangerous than the drug problem. Women who are seeking housemaid jobs must keep this in mind. Some members of our forces who were caught by the LTTE were allegedly killed by them after surgeries were done to remove body parts to be transplanted on LTTE leaders. We read about these stories in our newspapers. We underwent such a horrible terrorist period. KP was helping such terrorism at that time. Our media should take this up so that history is not distorted. The rulers too must see to it that without proper examination of the bodies of dead people, final reports are not submitted.
