The Police were yesterday hunting for a hit and run speeding motorist who rammed into a three wheeler killing a woman and her son at a location on Galle Road in Dodanduwa-Hikkaduwa. Three other persons including two women and the three wheeler driver also sustained serious injuries and are currently under treatment in life-threatening conditions, according to the police.
Police said the suspect driver was moving in a van at excessive speed and failed to stop and help the victims.

The van had rammed head on in to the three-wheeler and the vehicle was completely damaged in the collision. The Dodanduwa Police are conducting further investigations. Meanwhile two other persons were also killed in separate accidents at Wattegama in Kandy and Kanagarayakulam in Jaffna yesterday, according to the police.

They said that 55-year-old U. Jayaweera was killed on the spot after he was hit by a moving train that was heading for Matale from Kandy, while pedestrian Sinniah Anandan was fatally run over by a private passenger bus heading for Kandy from Jaffna at a location in Kanagarayakulam.

Meanwhile at least 21 passengers were injured after a truck rammed into a private passenger bus at Dombagahawela, Siyambalanduwa yesterday morning. The truck was moving from Badulla to Ampara when it hit the bus that was traveling in the opposite direction, police said.
