The Mattala Rajapaksa International Airport, a modern airport opened only two years ago, has been closed with no planes coming. Instead, lorry loads of paddy have begun to arrive there after the airports storage facilities were opened to store paddy. The Government says this is a temporary measure to help the farmers, because of the lack of storage facilities elsewhere for a bumper harvest.
