At least 60,000 postal voting applications sent by State employees and Defence personnel have been rejected on the grounds of giving false information or the illegibility of the filled forms, a senior official of the Elections Department said.
Deputy Elections Commissioner M.M. Mohamed told the Sunday Times that of the 628,925 applications for postal voting, 59,960 had been rejected.

“The applications were rejected on the grounds of providing false information, sending more than one application and failing to meet the deadline. When compared to the last election, this time the number of rejected applications are significantly lower,” he said. Mr. Mohamed said the Elections Department had handed over the sealed packs of polling cards to the Postal Department on Friday to be distributed before July 30.Public school teachers and police personnel could cast their votes on August 3 at their respective offices while the rest could vote on August 5 and 6,” he said. Some 567,290 are eligible to cast their votes through postal voting.
