The Elections Commissioner has appealed to state and private media organisations to be vigilant against “promoting or demoting” any party or candidate when airing or publishing news or programmes not related to the election.

In a statement, he said that any programme organised by community-based organisations, voluntary organisations, support groups, and sports events, musical shows and educational conferences arranged without any political motives should be publicised, and not those that demote or promote a candidate or a political party.
