Curtain came down of the 2nd Yonex Sunrise Sri Lanka International Challenge 2015 Badminton championship organised and hosted by the Sri Lanka Badminton Association when Sai Praneeth of India and Supanida Katethong of Thailand won the Men’s and Women’s singles titles respectively at the Sugathadasa Indoor Sports Complex yesterday.

Sri Lankas hopefuls Dinuka Karunaratne, his brother Niluka Karunaratne and Women’s shuttlers Achini Ratnasiri and Upuli Samanthika made early exits in the tournament thus shattering hopes of Sri Lankan badminton fans. In an all Indian affair at the Men’s Singles B. Sai Praneeth ranked number one in the tournament beat Sameer Verma comfortably 2-1 and in the Women’s Singles Switzerland’s Sabrina Jaquet after playing two matches awarded the match win to her opponent Supanida Katethong of Thailand due to sickness.

The best match of the day was witnessed at the Women’s Doubles final when Thailands Chaladehalam Chayanit partnering Phataimas Muenwong edged out Indians Pradnya Gadre and N. Sikki Reddy 2-1 in a hard fought contest. In the final day where five final events were worked off two each were won by India and Thailand and Malaysia was victorious in the Men’s Doubles.

Men’s Singles: B. Sai Praneeth (India) beat Sameer Verma (India) 21/18, 21/8
Men’s Doubles: Kien Keat Koo/Boon Heong Tan (Malaysia) beat Kah Ming Chooi/Yao Han Ow (Malaysia) 21/19, 21/17
Women’s Singles: Sabrina Jaquet (Switzerland) awarded the game win to Supanida Katethong (Thailand) in the third set. 21/17, 11/21

Women’s Doubles: Chaladehalam Chayanit/Phataimas Muenwong (Thailand) beat Pradnya Gadre/N. Sikki Reddy (India) 21/17, 14/21, 21/14
Mixed Doubles: Robin Middleton/Leanne Choo (Australia) lost to Arun Vishnu/Aparna Balan (India) 21/15, 17/21, 13/21.
