League contenders Isipathana confront Science today
The race for the Singer Under-20 Schools Rugby league title which got underway last week with the second round matches saw defending champions Isipathana and Royal maintain their unbeaten record and look likely to be the two teams in contention for the title his year.
Isipathana romped home to a massive 62 points to 15 over the hapless S. Thomas’ and in the process recorded their sixth straight win. Isipathana, one of the contenders for the Singer league title will confront Science at Mt. Lavinia today
This game should be a blockbuster due to the fact that Science has been performing more than what is expected from them this season. They have kept their opponents guessing as they showed it against Trinity in the first round and St. Joseph’s in their second round game last week which they won.
Isipathana on the other hand are not going to have it easy with the unreliable and gritty Science side. Of course Isipathana almost repeated the 61-0 win against S. Thomas’ but today’s opponents are completely different.
Also the Pathanians last year recorded a massive 55-7 win against Science but would they be able to make a repeat of that is left to be seen. The outcome against the Thomians was known in advance and Science will no doubt be coming into the game with a load of confidence and they have the resources to pull off an upset.
However the Omalka Gunaratne’s lads are also known for their robust style of play and they would no doubt be looking forward to record their seventh successive win and maintain the top slot. However predicting the outcome of this game is not going to be easy as Science as mentioned is capable of pulling off an upset.
