Prince of Wales College and President’s College Maharagama emerged victorious in this weekend’s Sri Lanka Schools Division ‘B’ rugby matches played at the Sugathadasa Stadium in Colombo yesterday .

In the games kicked off at 3.00pm President’s Maharagama recorded a resounding win against Vidura College Nawala while in the next game which started at 4.30pm Prince of Wales’ registered a commanding 44-12 win against Lalith Athulathmudali Maha Vidyalaya.

President’s scored from three tries and a conversion while Vidura replied with two unconverted tries. L. Pathirana scored the first try for Vidura and his teammate B.F.K Bandara was quick enough to add another try as they dominated the first half of the game. Despite the fantastic game of rugby displayed by the Vidura players the Cambrians retaliated to turn the game in their favour. P.V.S Ranasinghe of President’s bulldozed his way through the Vidura defence to score two tries and converted his own try to contribute 12 points to the final score. The game was controlled by Ishan Samath.

Top favourites Prince of Wales, the powerhouse team of this segment dominated the game from the first whistle. C.U.S Fernando harvested four tries from his robust forward play as G.M Samaranayake and M.K.L Peiris replied with two tries for Lalith Athulathmudali MV bringing their team 10 points. At lemons the scoreboard read 24-12 in favour of the eventual winners. Cambrians dominated the second half as well by not allowing their opponents to add any points as T.Y.G. Peiris’ boot gave his team seven points. As the final whistle blew the Cambrians ended the game with an impressive tally of seven tries, three conversions and a penalty. Prince of Wales was relegated to Division ‘B’ last year and this match was a living testament that they are seriously aiming to redeem themselves and resurface into the top division.
