Lanka Children’s and Youth Theatre Foundation (LCYTF) or popularly known as Play House Kotte is calling applications for a programme on diploma on acting scheduled to commence in March. The programme entails all round training relating to theatre and drama including acting, script writing and analysis, directing, movement and vocal training.

The duration of the first stage of the programme is five to six months and within this period, twenty-five class sessions will be conducted on weekly basis. There will be one to two sessions per week mostly on Saturdays, Sundays or/and other public holidays. Those who successfully complete the first stage would be eligible for Certificate (Level IV of NVQ) in acting. Those who continue practical application of Acting and Drama and Theatre Arts for further three to four months are eligible to obtain Diploma (Level V of NVQ) in acting.

The primary focus of the diploma programme is on acting, directing, script writing and dance theatre. Thus the participants will have the opportunity to learn free and structured movements, posture, body flexibility and physical balance, vocal training, pronunciation, voice projection, directing and script writing such as character analysis, improvisation, plotting scenes, etc.

The programme is conducted by Ms. Kaushalya Fernando, Prasanna Mahagamage, Namal Jayasinghe, Chamila Priyanka and Thisara Imbulana who are experts in acting (on stage and for camera), directing and script writing currently in Sri Lanka with international exposure. In addition, other professional artistes from specialised fields will conduct sessions.

Over 30 years, Playhouse Kotte which was started by veteran actress Somalatha Subasinghe has been training numerous talented youth who are at present engaged in the work of both theatre and film industry at professional level in Sri Lanka.
