Battle of the Maroons encounter at the SSC ground yesterday.

Ananda invited to take first lease of the wicket got off to an inauspicious start losing two early wickets with the scoreboard reading just ten runs. Skipper Ashan joining Nisal Fransisco began a rescue act with the pair denying success for a long spell for the Nalanda bowlers.
The pair was associated in a valuable 105 runs for the third wicket before being separated with the dismissal of Fransisco having made a knock of 53 which comprised eight boundaries. Ananda fell back again as they lost two wickets for the addition of 16 runs and slid from a healthy position of 115 for 2 to 131 for 5.

Nalanda paceman Ayantha de Silva claimed a five-for

Skipper Ashan put in another recovery stand for Ananda when he put on 82 runs for the sixth wicket with Nipun Hakgalla before declaring their innings on 245 for 9 having faced 51.3 overs,

Ashan’s knock comprised 17 boundaries and a six while for Ananda right arm pacie Ayantha de Silva ended up with impressive figures of 5 for 32. It was Ayantha who took the crucial wickets in the Nalanda innings.

Nalanda in their turn was given a sound start by openers Senura Perera and Raveen Dasanayake who together added 54.

This stand ended with the run out of Senura for 23. Dasanayake did not last long but made a fine contribution of 53 that included eight boundaries.

Nalanda ended the day with a score of 113 for 3 from 42 overs with skipper Malinga Amarasinghe and Lakshitha Rasanjana at the crease. Kavishka Anjula was responsible for the three Nalanda wickets to fall for the day. The match will be continued today.
