It is reported that the Central Bank of Sri Lanka had engaged the services of the former managing director of the IMF, Dominic Strauss Kahn at a fee of US$750000. Since it is known that Mr. Kahn provided both financial consultancy and allegedly pimping services could we know the kind of services obtained by the Central Bank since the taxpayers money was involved?

Business Editor notes; The Sunday Times was the first to break the news of this ‘almost’ secret deal.

On January 19, 2015 the Sunday Times website reported that the former high profile banker had been placed on a contract worth US$ 750,000 to advise Sri Lanka on becoming a financial hub. The report said that barring probably former CB Governor Ajith Nivard Cabraal and a few others, not many CB senior employees were aware of this contract. Given the secrecy surrounding this deal, as Mr. Weerasinghe has suggested, the Bank – in the present environment of transparency and governance – needs to explain this deal in full.
