Stages Theatre Group’s newest play ‘Walking Path – a play without words’ directed by Jayampathy Guruge and scripted by Ruwanthie de Chickera won four major awards at the 16th Thespo drama festival in Mumbai recently.

The play, an experimental piece of theatre based on the culture of walking paths in the city of Colombo, won the awards for the Most Outstanding Production, Most Outstanding Director, Most Outstanding Ensemble and Most Outstanding Production Design.

Walking Path was performed in two separate venues in Mumbai on December 19 and 20.  It received a very positive response from the Indian audience with a standing ovation on its opening night.  This year’s Thespo festival featured 25 performances ranging from site specific creations, to live music performances, to wordless movement pieces to full length theatre. The plays were chosen from 186 applicants from across India.

The play was performed in July and November this year at the Lionel Wendt and drew positive feedback from audiences and critics alike.
