The State Engineering Corporation (SEC) has been directed to expedite the C-City complex at Peliyagoda with a view to opening it on December 31st ahead of the presidential elections, a senior SEC official told the Business Times. The UDA estimated cost of the market complex is Rs. 1.36 billion.
He disclosed that Minister Wimal Weerawansa has insisted that the engineers should complete the construction work soon enabling the president to declare open the building on the eve of the poll.

But the engineers have told him that it cannot be done quickly as it is a mega development project a 16 acre-block of land, in close proximity to the Peliyagoda fish market. It will replace the Colombo Manning Market.

The complex will consist over 250 stalls, a modern food court, kids play area and much more and spread across 16 acres to give Sri Lanka a world class shopping complex designed specifically for the construction industry.

The mega complex will also contain a car park, modern warehouse facilities and state of the art facilities

Bids were closed to allocate stalls for traders recently and only 16 traders were selected to provide stalls up to now, he revealed.

City will also offer almost all the building materials and construction related services under one roof.
