The flood of reconditioned and used vehicles should be curtailed while encouraging brand new vehicle imports in a pragmatic manner in order to save the country’s much needed foreign reserves, former President of Ceylon Motor Traders Association and Executive Director of Sathosa Motors PLC Tilak Gunasekera told the Business Times on the sidelines of the launch of the all new ISUZU MU-X, a 7-seat family vehicle, at the BMICH in Colombo recently.

At present around Rs. 10 billion is spent on importing vehicle spare parts and this could be minimised by replacing old vehicles with new ones at the right time, he added.

Sathosa Motors PLC has introduced its new flagship ISUZU MU-X in three variants all packed with new technological and design features combined with Isuzu’s penchant for delivering efficient performance, Mr. Gunasekera disclosed.

“Whether you are navigating peak-hour (traffic) on a weekday school run or traversing whatever the wildest weekend can throw at you, the ISUZU MU-X has you covered for the routine extreme and everything in between,” he said adding that Sri Lankans would find this MU-X SUV ideal as a family vehicle, adding; “It is expected to clinch a considerable market share with the ISUZU’s sophisticated high technology”.
A company statement said that “coming from one of the world’s leading manufacturers of diesel engine technology, the impressive ISUZU turbo-diesel engine that powers the All-New ISUZU MU-X is as frugal as it is athletic”.

Delivering 136PS of power and 320Nm of torque, the high pressure common rail fuel injection system makes the most of every drop of fuel, and the intercooled VGS (Variable Geometry System) turbocharger provides excellent response over the engine’s entire rev range, it said.

The ISUZU MU-X carries comprehensive crash avoidance electronics including ABS (Anti-lock brake system) with EBD (Electronic Break force Distribution) and BA (Brake
Assist).
