Everyone has a hope of reaching their targets and aspiring to become a successful person. For everything a person does in life, the starting point always is a dream, says Pierre Pringiers, Honorary Consul for Belgium in Sri Lanka.

He made this comment presenting the annual oration at the 14th Annual Oration and 8th Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) Awards Ceremony held at the HNB Towers in Colombo last week.

During the oration, Mr. Pringiers expressed his thoughts on how a chartered accountant should assist the others in life. He elaborated the way in which he came up in life and the challenges he faced in order to achieve success in his life. He said, “For everything you do in life, you have to have a dream. Entrepreneurship is a dream; the starting point is a dream”. There will be many ups and downs in a business no matter how much certified and a chartered accountant you could be, he noted.

Chief Guest at the event, CFA Institute Managing Director for Asia Pacific, Paul Smith said, “Professionalism is a contract that each chartered accountant needs to maintain throughout with the society. The purpose of the profession is to help and urge the poor society.” He also emphasized on the fact that upcoming young generation who are aspiring to become chartered accountants in the future should help the society to improve and commit themselves to a life-long journey.

Presenting the welcome address, CFA Sri Lanka President, Sanjay Kulatunga mentioned that this year marks the highest number of graduates in the Sri Lankan CFA history. In Sri Lanka the number of chartered accountants is increasing rapidly exploring new ventures, he added.

During the CFA Sri Lanka Research Challenge Awards 2014, University of Sri Jayawardenapura became the second runner-up, Royal Institute of Colombo became the first runner-up while University of Colombo emerged as the winner.
