Weekly film screening at Alliance Française de Colombo will screen ‘Le Scaphandre et le Papillon’ a biopic drama revolving around a journalist who suffers a massive stroke will be screened at 3 pm on Sept 2 and at 6.30 pm on September 3. The film is directed by Julian Scanabel. On 8 December 1995 a massive stroke plunged Jean-Dominique Bauby, a journalist and father two children, in a deep coma. When he came out of it, all his motor functions had deteriorated. Suffering from what doctors say “locked-in syndrome”, he could not move, speak or even breathe without assistance. In this inert body, only one eye moves. This eye became his link with the world outside with life. He blinks once to say “yes” twice to say “no”. With his eye, he stops focus of visitors’ attention on the letters of the alphabet dictated to him and form of words, phrases….
