IAPCO (International Association of Professional Conference Organisers) in collaboration with SLAPCEO (Sri Lanka Association of Professional Conference, Exhibition and Event Organisers) and Sri Lanka Convention Bureau (SLCB), recently held its first-ever taining course in Colombo in conferences’ handling and organization.

Titled ‘The Bid and Beyond ‘ the event was held on July 20-24 at Heritance Kandalama with participants drawn from industry members representing the leading organisations who deal with MICE –meetings, incentives, congresses, exhibitions and events in Sri Lanka.
Structured under the direction of the IAPCO training Academy, and conducted by an internationally qualified panel of lecturers – Mathias Posch, Ms Sara Pugh and Andre Vietor from IAPO Wolfsburg, the programme covered several useful sessions namely bidding for meetings, the art of sponsorship, programme management and managing apps, risk management, registration, onsite arrangements, venue and accommodation management. The programme was very interactive, with sharing of professional expertise, international case studies and useful tips in competing strategically in the global market, according to a SLCB media release.

“In the past, Sri Lankans and those in the conference business world over had to invest much to send their employees to Switzerland in order to follow IAPCO’s highly acclaimed training courses in conference and event handling but we together with SLAPCEO made it possible to hold such a course in Sri Lanka at 10 per cent of the cost,” said SLCB CEO Vipula Wanigasekera. In recent years Sri Lanka has made tremendous progress in attracting several international events and continues to forge ahead as a sought after venue for international conferences and events. An internationally recognized certificate was awarded upon successful completion of the IAPCO course.
