Old soldiers ready to go marching along
View(s):The Senior Citizens of the MCA will dust their boots, dry clean their old flannels and get their fitness levels up in preparation for the Annual MCA Over-40 “Sixes” coming up today, at the MCA and D.S. Senanayake College grounds, commencing 8.30am.
The tournament is sponsored by Ceylon Cold Stores PLC and played for the ‘Elephant House Lemonade’ Trophy. Last year, Union Assurance PLC, who made their debut, dethroned the defending Champions HNB, who held the title for three straight years.
This year, 12 teams will play in four groups, first on a league basis and secondly a knockout, consisting of fifteen matches, including the final.
The Special Awards on offer are for the Best Batsman, Best Bowler, Most “Sixes”, Most Senior Player and the Man of the Final.
As the weather has turned since last Sunday, the MCA Seniors, who really look forward to this tournament will be praying for good sunshine today.
The Groupings
Group ‘A’: Union Assurance PLC, Hayley’s Group and Colombo Dockyard PLC.
Group ‘B’: Sri Lanka Telecom, SriLankan Airlines and John Keells Group.
Group ‘C’: Singer Sri Lanka PLC, Sampath Bank and Unilever.
Group ‘D’: HNB, NDB Bank and Janashakthi Insurance.
