Sumanadasa Abeygunawardena, President Mahinda Rajapaksa’s astrologer and a working director of the National Savings Bank (NSB), narrowly escaped injury on Thursday when a brick fell off the exterior of the lobby area of the NSB headquarters building which is now under construction, hitting his vehicle, witnesses said.

An eye witness said that he saw a brick falling from the area under construction onto the vehicle, completely smashing the windscreen. Mr. Abeygoonawardena was about to get into his vehicle at the time of the incident, he said.

Mr. Abeygoonawardena met with an accident a couple of months ago when he was on his way to NSB Colombo from Galle. His official vehicle was badly damaged in the accident but he was not injured.

The powerful astrologer is believed to have advised the president to hold early presidential elections next year.
