Superb play by the back division led by winger T.I. Jaleel who helped himself to three tries, enabled Kingswood to score a convincing 40 points (5 Goals, 1 Try) to 8 (1 Try, 1 penalty) win over S. Thomas’ at Bogambara.

Ironically, the Thomians opened the scoring with a second minute penalty put over by S.M. de Silva around the tenth minute; I.P. Kumara collected a high kick around the half way mark and simply stormed through the entire defence virtually untouched. Skipper A.R. Wijesinghe who had a 80 per cent conversion rate, did the honours.

Winger Jaleel scored the first of his three tries when the backs handled the ball well and sent it out to him to run round the defence.
In the second half, he used his speed to telling effect to race along the touch line and score twice. It was 14-3 at the break. Shortly after the re-start, the Thomians forwards maintained a lot of pressure on the Kingswood line. H.N. de Silva succeeded in wriggling his way over the line for their solitary try. Kingswood was far superior in both attack and defence. The visitors added to their woes by some atrocious tackling. At least three of the Kingswod tries could, and should, have been resented by resolute tackling.
Referee Sarath Madugalle.
