Unknown trio allegedly assaults Chief Incumbent of Mahawewa temple
View(s):An unidentified group is alleged to have assaulted a Buddhist monk in Mahawewa after dusk yesterday, after they failed to abduct him, police said.
The victim, Ven. Yatiyana Sri Siddhaloka Thera, Chief Incumbent of the Galamuna Sri Vardanaramaya in Mahawewa, is currently undergoing treatment at the Marawila Hospital, police said.
In a statement to police, the Ven. Thera claimed that three persons who were responsible for the attack, had fled in a three-wheeler when another monk in the temple raised the alarm and alerted residents in the area. The motive for the attack is not known and Marawila Police are conducting further investigations. (LB)
