View(s):

A group of UNP MPs, Provincial Council members and supporters staged a protest in Hambantota yesterday against Police inaction in the wake of the attack on a group of parliamentarians from the Party when they were on an inspection tour of the Mattala airport and Hambantota port recently.

Among those present was the UNP Acting Leader Karu Jayasuriya as well as the MPs who were threatened and attacked two weeks ago. UNP Hambantota district MP Sajith Premadasa who spoke during the protest said that the Government of President Mahinda Rajapaksa must ensure that action is taken against those who took part in the attack on the UNP MPs.

The Mayor of Hambantota Eraj Fernando who was seen brandishing a pistol during the unrest is yet to be questioned by Police even though statements have been recorded from all MPs who were present on the day of the incident.
