Sri Lanka’s rent-a-car service is to be transformed to international levels with the entry of Germany’s number one car rental company Sixt Rent-a-Car by opening its offices countrywide in collaboration with Prestige Group, Heinz A. Reuter, Chairman of the Group said.
Addressing the launching ceremony of Sixt Rent-a-Car service in Colombo, he noted that it will offer top-of-the-line BMW and Hyundai vehicles initially, expanding its product offering in the future.

This expansion into Sri Lanka was the result of the current economic developments and the emerging needs of the modern Sri Lankan clients, he added.

Sri Lanka needs super luxury rent-a-car service- to cater to the requirements of top foreign delegates, high end tourists and foreign business magnets as the country is rapidly developing and it attracts high level international dignitaries, Dr. Jorgen Morhard, German Ambassador in Sri Lanka told Business Times on the sidelines of the launching ceremony.

He noted that Sixt Rent-a-Car is a single owned company which is in existence in Germany for over 100 years, and its entry into Sri Lanka is very important to boost the country’s image among foreign and local travellers who used rent-a-car-services for their leisure travel.

The rapidly growing tourism and leisure sector, airline industry and infrastructure development requires an international level rent-a-car service and the country needs a fully equipped company to deliver such super luxury services, he added.

Dr. Morhard pointed out that both private and business customers find innovative solutions for their mobility needs at many stations throughout Germany. Sixt also impresses with high service and product quality, customer-orientation and constant improvement, Mr. Reuter said.

“We have identified a lack of luxury and high profile cars available in the local market and our aim is to capitalise on this need,” he said.
The rapidly growing tourism and leisure sector, airline industry and infrastructure development requires the delivery of these services on a regular basis, he added.

“All our vehicles will have a profile and will be well-maintained throughout,” he said adding that “all vehicles offered by Sixt will be ‘brand new’ ensuring peace of mind among clients and hassle-free running”.

Recently, the Sixt rent-a-car company also established operations in the United States, which brings the number of countries it operates at 105, with over 4,000 rental offices. It operates the biggest luxury car fleet amongst all rental companies.
