Electrical Engineering Senior Lecturer Nihal Kularatna, named New Zealand Innovator of the Year at the New Zealand Engineering Excellence Awards recently, will be sharing his insights on the topic “Education to Innovation and Commercialization” on Februay 18 at the Institute of Engineers Sri Lanka Auditorium from 2pm to 4 pm.

The event is open to public and is being jointly organized by the Sri Lanka Inventors Commission (SLIC) and the Institute of Engineers, according to an SLIC media release.

The award recognizes Mr. Kularatne’s work in the field of electronic engineering during his career which spans 35 years. He is presently employed as a Senior Lecturer at the School of Engineering, University of Waikato, New Zealand. After 10 years of employment in the aviation and telecommunications industries, he joined the Arthur C. Clarke institute for Modern Technologies in Sri Lanka as an R& D engineer in 1985 and he was appointed the CEO of the institute in 1999.

From 2002 to 2005 he was a senior lecturer at the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, University of Auckland, New Zealand and he is currently with the University of Waikato, Hamilton, New Zealand.
