As his productive performances on the field, Randev Pathirana of Royal College Colombo managed to create a major change in the 35th Bata-the Sunday Times Most Popular Schoolboy Cricketer of the Year 2014 competition.

By the third week Pathirana toppled Akila Lakshan, the original leader of this year’s contest, with a massive count of 678 votes from the concluded week. As the All-Island contest moves to its third week, Pathirana leads with 1199 votes, 106 ahead of Lakshan of Panadura Royal, who was pushed down to second place after two weeks. Lakshan’s collection of 284 votes was insufficient to help his cause, maintain the leadership grid for another week.

Danushka Lahiru of Vidyaloka Vidyalaya Galle expanded his tally to 414, with a mere addition of 23 votes during the week, as he continues to lead the Emerging Schools category for the third consecutive week.

The most competitive category of all, the International Schools, is turning out to be an exciting battle after two contestants joined its leader of two weeks, Rasanjana Mallikaarachchi of Lyceum Nugegoda. Interestingly Mallikaarachchi dominance was brought to an end by Romesh Madushan of Leighton Park, who added a massive 686 votes to being his tally to 936. Mallikaarachchi was pushed down to second place with a tally of 578 votes.
