In a pulsating game of rugby played at Welisara yesterday, Navy Sports Club maintained their unbeaten record by beating CR and FC by 48-20, in a Cup segment game of the Dialog Division ‘A’ club tournament. The Sailors scored from five tries, four conversions and five penalties while the Red Shirts’ points came from two converted tries and two penalties.

Navy lead the halftime at 25-17.

The eventual winners and the visitors were locked in a close battle in the first session but Navy extended their lead soon after the second half kicked off. They managed to maintain the pressure until the end last whistle. Tupuulai Alisi and standoff Chanaka Chandimal made some daring breaks giving room for others to finish. Alisi, Saliya Handapangoda and Jasaon Dissnayake scored a try each and Lutumailagi Joli touched down twice for the winners.

Nuwan Hettiaratcthi converted four of the tries and put over five penalties. Ishan Noor and Va’a Lafaie scored a try each for CR as fullback Reeza Mubarak converted both of them in addition to the two penalties.

Meanwhile Upcountry Lions Sports Club edged out Sri Lanka Army by 21 points to17 in their second round Cup segment match of the Dialog Division ‘A’ club rugby tournament played at Jayatilake Stadium in Nawalapitiya. The winners posted two tries, made a conversion and three penalties while the Soldiers scored from two converted tries and a penalty. Dinka Peiries refereed.
