The UPFA said last night that the large turnout at the Northern Province elections was a victory for democracy.
In a statement, UPFA General Secretary Susil Premajayantha said those who hailed democracy should appreciate that a high percentage had voted in the north.

“We should specially note that there was a turnout of 70% from Mullaitivu district which was covered with landmines and had a very crucial history. The people of the area were under the rule of terrorists for 30 years,” he said said.
