The inaugural meeting of the South Asian Federation of Endocrine Societies (SAFES) comprising the Endocrine Societies of Sri Lanka, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Nepal was held in January, in Colombo hosted by the Endocrine Society of Sri Lanka under the presidency of Dr. Noel Somasundaram. The scientific sessions of SAFES held last month in Hyderabad, India (from August 16 to 18) were attended by about 500 endocrinologists and trainees and the Sri Lankan delegation included 25 physicians.

The members of the International Faculty included Dr. Noel Somasundaram, Dr. Henry Rajaratnam, Prof. Chandrika Wijeratne and Dr. Charles Antonypillai. The Chairpersons included Dr. Chaminda Garusinghe and Dr. Dimuthu Muthukuda.
