Fourteen – year-old Sri Lankan student Akila Aluthge, currently going to school in Qatar, has been selected to compete at the model racing car design competition “F1 in Schools Programme – 2013 World Final”, which will be held at the end of September in the US state of Texas, according to a statement by ACECAM, a local reseller for SolidWorks, one of the software solutions used in this competition.
The statement noted that “Akila had the opportunity to get hands on experience in 3D modeling in ‘Williams F1 Advance Engineering’ facility in Qatar. According to Akila, he had begun designing the car using SolidWorks.

Their team for ‘F1 in Schools Program’ from Qatar was selected along with another team. Akila has said that this is the first time Qatar is competing in the world finals and there are more than 40 countries due to participate.
The competition is always held in a country where the Grand Prix is taking place”.
