External Affairs spokesman now Ministry Additional Sec.

E. Rodney M. Perera, Sri Lanka’s former Ambassador to Italy and Norway and currently Director of Public Communications (official spokesman) in the Ministry of External Affairs, has been appointed Additional Secretary in the Ministry. The appointment has been made by the Public Service Commission.

Rodney Perera

Mr. Perera joined the Foreign Service in 1988 has served concurrently as Ambassador in Albania, Greece and High Commissioner in Cyprus and Malta and served in Sri Lanka’s missions in Tokyo, Nairobi and New York.

He has represented the country at the United Nations General Assembly sessions in New York and as Permanent Representative at several multilateral UN agencies in Rome and Geneva.

In Colombo, Mr. Perera served as one-time Director General of Political Affairs at the Foreign Office, among other posts.  A past student of St. Joseph’s College, Colombo, Mr. Perera has a Master’s Degree in International Affairs from the prestigious Columbia University of New York.

He will now be tasked to cover areas relating to Public and Economic Diplomacy, Political Affairs and the welfare of Sri Lankan workers overseas.
