A group claiming to be from the Bodu Bala Sena (BBS) has sparked unrest within the villagers of Kalutara- Katukurunda area, when they attempted to remove a Sandakada Pahana (moonstone) from St Philip Neris church.

The group had warned the church that the sandakada pahana doesn’t belong there and has to be removed on Friday (21). However, the action had sparked unrest among the villagers who gathered at the church premises on Friday evening to stand guard.
Kalutara police officials including SP Roshan Silva and ASP Sugath Silva also arrived at the scene.

Meanwhile, on Thursday (20) a group including two monks, also claiming to be from the BBS, had removed a sandakada pahana from a Catholic church in Maggona, Munhena in Kalutara. It is reported that this specimen was later handed over to a temple. Police have warned the group to return it to the church.
