Uduvil Mann’s sweep the board in Northern inter club shuttle tourney

The shuttlers from Uduvil Mann’s Sports Club swept the board by annexing both the Men’s and the Women’s Open Interclub Badminton Championship Organized by the Northern Province Badminton Association, played in the indoor stadium of Peto Hall, St. John’s College, Jaffna.

In the Men’s event the hero was R. Reminson who won the singles and he was ably supported by T. Thushanthan who, too, won his singles event played against Manipay Parish Sports Club. In the Women’s event the heroine was J. Nitharsiva who was victorious in the singles. C. Gobika maintained the clean sweep by Uduvil Mann’s Sports Club by winning her singles, played against Chundikuli Girl’s Sports Club which emerged runners up of the event. The teams were ably coached by Ms. Rubi Rajaratnam , the Badminton Coach of Uduvil Mann’s Sports Club.

Eight teams from four Districts of the Northern Province, except Mulaitivu District, participated in the Tournament. The Chief Guest of the function was Mr. S. Annathurai, former Director of Sports, Northern Province.

It will be of interest to note that Uduvil Mann’s Sports Club became champions without any basic facilities like proper indoor stadium, equipments and financial support.
