Moratuwa Sharks prevail in thrilling final

Moratuwa Sharks booked the berth to the Red Bull World University Cup when they prevailed with a thrilling ten run win over Sri Jayewardenepura Kings in the finals of the Red Bull Campus Cricket finals played at the P. Sara Stadium yesterday.

Sri Jayewardenepura Kings was well on course to victory when they were given a solid start by openers R.M. Cooray and T.M. Samarasinghe who put on a quick fire stand of 92 runs in 12 overs. But the dismissal of Samarasinghe after having made a brisk 56 off 51 balls saw them falling back.
Moratuwa Sharks undeterred fought back with vengeance as apart from the other opener Cooray who chipped in a with a 40 balls knock of 38 the rest of the batting failed to make any impression.
This followed with the Kings who were in a healthy position of 92 for 1 struggling from their onwards as they fell short of the required run rate and ended with a score of 127 for 4 in their 20 overs.
The champion Moratuwa Sharks team will now contest along with campus teams from Pakistan, England, Australia, New Zealand, West Indies, South Africa, Bangladesh, Netherlands, Canada, UAE and hosts India.
