Lyceum Nugegoda and Wattala dominate U13 cager tourney
View(s):The young and promising cagers of Lyceum International School in Nugegoda and Wattala dominated at the Inter-International Schools Basketball Tournament, organised by Colombo International School recently.
Their young boys and girls launched into the forefront of the Under-13 age category of the tournament by claiming both segments. The Lyceum Nugegoda Under-13 team won the boys’ championship with two of their players, Sandeep Gunaratne and Vidusha Dahanayake, grabbing the awards for Best Player and Best Defensive Player respectively.
The winning Lyceum Nugegoda boys’ team had Sandeep Gunaratne, Rushdy Ashrof, Rahul Abeygunawardena, Indisham Naleem, Arshad Rafeek, Shavinka Jayasekara, Praveen Bashitha, Yasheen Pieris, Michael Harvie, Navina Weerasinghe, Vidusha Dahanayake, Faheem Shaffie, Danuka Kularatne, 
Emad Mikyas and Venura Nandathilake. The team was coached by Niluk Dhananjaya with Buwani Wickramarachchi acting as the teacher-in-charge.
Meanwhile the girls of Lyceum Wattala clinched the Under-13 championship at the same tournament for the third consecutive year.
Interestingly the Wattala lasses had to face off against their counterparts from Lyceum Nugegoda. Eventually the Wattala girls emerged victorious with skipper Hikkari Hatta winning the Most Valuable Player award and Medha Premakumara being named Best Defensive Player. Others who represented Lyceum Wattala were Meevika Themothy, Mihinsa de Alwis, Senera Dasanaya, Nishni Perera, Pawani Ranepua, Dewmini Nimshiya, Raadhiya Bongso, Tharinduni Rodrigo, Pumudi Weedeniya, Senuri Hapuarachchi, Hikari Hatta, Medha Premakumara, Lohansa Rangalla, Haseena Abdul, Shenel Dias, Luna Morseth, Rashmi Perera and Sakuni Wisanperuma. – NA
